America to Play Rialto Square Theatre as Part of Their 50th Anniversary Tour

The VenuWorks-managed Rialto Square Theatre and NiteLite Promotions announced today that classic-rock favorite, America, will make Rialto Square Theatre part of their 50th anniversary tour Friday, November 20, 2020 at 8:00pm. Tickets will go on sale next Friday, February 21, at 10:00am.

Founding members Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell (along with former band mate Dan Peek) met in high school in London in the late 1960s and quickly harmonized their way to the top of the charts on the strength of their signature song “A Horse With No Name.” America became a global household name and paved the way with an impressive string of hits following the success of their first #1 single. Fifty years later, these friends are still making music together, touring the world and thrilling audiences with their timeless sound.

America’s journey has found them exploring a wide variety of musical terrain. Their best-known tunes, which also include “I Need You,” “Ventura Highway,” “Don’t Cross The River,” “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” and “Sister Golden Hair” were cornerstones of 1970’s Top 40 and FM rock radio. Yet beyond their impressive catalog of hits, listeners would discover there was always much more to America than surface perceptions. The combination of Gerry Beckley’s melodic pop rock and Dewey Bunnell’s use of folk-jazz elements, slinky Latin-leaning rhythms and impressionistic lyric imagery contrasted well with Dan Peek’s more traditional country-rock leanings and highly personal lyrics.

America’s albums–six certified gold and/or platinum, with their first greatest hits collection, History, hitting four plus million in sales–displayed a fuller range of the trio’s talents than did their singles. Their material encompassed an ambitious artistic swath; from effects-laden rockers to oddball medleys to soul-bearing ballads, America displayed a flawless blend of disparate genres and styles as wide-open as the great American plains.

From their formative years, America has been a band capable of transcending borders with its uplifting music and positive message. Embracing a rainbow of divergent cultures, America’s audiences continue to grow, comprising a loyal legion of first, second and third generation fans, all bearing testament to the group’s enduring appeal. “I think that the ingredients of the America sound are the basic fundamentals that translate internationally,” explains Beckley. “The Italians are huge fans of dance music, but they also love a ballad–they’re romantic at heart. It’s the same in the Far East. A lot of times in these countries, we see people singing along, and they don’t really know what the words mean. Music is truly the international language.”

Cult Comedy “Napoleon Dynamite” Showing and Conversation to be Held at Rialto Square Theatre

VenuWorks Presents Napoleon Dynamite: A Conversation with Jon Heder, Efren Ramirez & Jon Gries

Friday, September 25, 2020 @ 7:30pm
*Tickets On-Sale Friday, February 14 @ 10:00am*

It was announced this morning that the hit cult movie “Napoleon Dynamite” will be shown at Rialto Square Theatre on September 25, 2020, including a conversation with three of the actors afterwards.

Much has changed since the beloved indie classic “Napoleon Dynamite” was made almost 15 years ago, but the characters, as enduring as they are endearing, stay in our hearts. Appealing to the inner-teenager in each of us, the story, and more importantly the dialogue, makes “Napoleon Dynamite” one of the most quoted movies of our time. “Napoleon Dynamite” makes us laugh – and laugh hard – over and over again.

Napoleon Dynamite is a socially awkward 16-year-old from Preston, Idaho, who lives with his grandmother and his older brother. The film centers around Napoleon’s high school’s race for class president, where Napoleon is determined to help his friend Pedro beat popular girl Summer. In addition to navigating his high school life, Napoleon must also face the strange family dynamics back home.

This unique evening includes a full screening of “Napoleon Dynamite” followed by a lively, freewheeling, moderated discussion with fan-favorite cast members; Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico).

Grammy Award-Winning Charlie Daniels Band and Marshall Tucker Band to play Rialto

Southern rock icons The Charlie Daniels Band (CDB) and The Marshall Tucker Band (MTB) announced the “Fire on the Mountain” tour, a national road show that will bring together two of the genre’s most beloved musical legends. The Fire On The Mountain Tour will be at the Rialto Square Theatre on Friday, Sept 11, 2020 @ 7:30pm. Tickets On-Sale Friday, January 17 @ 10:00am.

“The idea of us touring again with the CDB leads to all kinds of possibilities,” says MTB lead singer Doug Gray. “It’s not just about the music, but also the friendships and the reunion with the fans who’ve been with us for many years. We’ll be playing all of our hit songs as well as material from an upcoming re-released vinyl album.”

The tour title is a nod to The Marshall Tucker Band’s 1978 hit song, “Fire on the Mountain,” as well as The Charlie Daniels Band’s 1974 platinum-selling album of the same name.

“”We have played more shows with the MTB through the years than any other band and have worked together for over forty years,” adds Daniels. “We have so much history and so many memories and the music is so compatible that when we get together, the audience, CDB and MTB have a big ole southern-style good time.”
