VenuWorks Presents Carrot Top at the Rialto Square Theatre Tickets On Sale 10/22 at 10AM!

Comedian Carrot Top will be taking the stage on Friday, May 20, 2022 at the Rialto Square Theatre at 8 PM.

Scott “Carrot Top” Thompson has been making audiences around the world laugh for more than three decades. Since his debut on “Star Search”, Carrot Top has soared to success and became one of the most recognizable entertainers in the world. Since 2005, fans have flocked to his Las Vegas headlining residency at Luxor Hotel and Casino to catch comedy’s King of Props induce sidesplitting laughter with his current take on pop culture, music, and headlines of the day in a continually evolving show.

The trademark red locks and the undeniably inventive use of props have vaulted Carrot Top to the level that most comedians can only hope to reach “Nobody can steal my act,” said Carrot Top, who constantly channels his creative genius to invent new props. With a dozen trunks filled with approximately 200 props on stage each night, audience members can count on not seeing the same show twice. “I love creating props that are relevant to whatever’s current – from a news headline to a song I heard on the radio.”

Carrot Top got his start as a student at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida during his freshman year, when he went to a club and saw live standup comedy for the first time. A few months later, his roommate convinced him to sign up at an open mic night and after a handful of nerve-wracking first performances, he had caught the comedy bug.

After building a following on the comedy circuit that made people laugh nearly every weekend, his first television appearance was on “Comic Strip Live” in 1991. Things changed for Carrot Top forever in 1992 with his first appearance on “The Tonight Show.” That appearance exposed his unique brand of comedy to every home in America. After an impressive 31 appearances, Carrot Top had the distinct honor of appearing on the very last episode of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Carrot Top’s other credits included hundreds of television programs including “Live with Regis and Kelly,” “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” and many more. Most recently, he appeared in “Sharknado: The 4th Awakens,” “The Hangover,” and the Trailer Park Boys’ film “Swearnet: The Movie.”

Carrot Top’s shows are a spectacle worthy of most arena rock bands and features lights, music, fog machines, and streamer cannons – all in addition to his trunks full of props.

VenuWorks Presents Keillor & Company – A Prairie Home Holiday

VenuWorks Presents
Keillor & Company – A Prairie Home Holiday

keillor & company - a prairie home holiday at the rialto

Garrison Keillor, Prudence Johnson and Dan Chouinard join together for an evening of December Cheer, stories and songs about love and family and a Christmas sing-along, and the news from Lake Wobegon on December 11, 2021 at 8:00 PM at the Rialto Square Theatre.

There are sung sonnets, limericks and musical jokes, and the thread that runs through it is the beauty of growing old. Despite the inconvenience, old age brings the contentment of LESS IS MORE. Your mistakes and big ambitions are behind you, nothing left to prove, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s what’s left. (“I was unhappy in college because it was a requirement for an intellectual, but then I went into show business and discovered that people won’t pay to be made unhappy, their kids will do it for free.) There is the News from Lake Wobegon, a town booming with new entrepreneurs, makers of artisanal firewood and gourmet meatloaf, breeders of composting worms, and dogs trained to do childcare. But some things endure, such as the formation of the Living Flag on Main Street, citizens in tight formation wearing red, white or blue caps, and Mr. Keillor among them, standing close to old neighbors, Myrtle Krebsbach (“Truckstop”) and Julie Christensen (“Bruno, The Fishing Dog”) and Clint Bunsen. And an a cappella sing-along with the audience singing from memory an odd medley of patriotic songs, pop standards, hymns, and ending with the national anthem.

Dan Chouinard is a St. Paul-based honky-tonk pianist, concert soloist and accompanist, street accordionist, sing-along enabler, Italian and French teacher, and bicycling vagabond. He’s been writer and host of a number of live history-with-music shows broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio and Twin Cities Public Television. He played on a dozen live broadcasts of A Prairie Home Companion plus a half dozen APHC cruises, and served as rehearsal pianist for Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, and Lindsay Lohan on the 2005 movie. He’s featured on a number of recordings with APHC regulars Peter Ostroushko (RIP), Prudence Johnson, and Maria Jette.

Prudence Johnson’s long and happy career as a singer, writer, and teacher has landed her on the musical theater stage, in two feature films (A River Runs Through It, A Prairie Home Companion), on a national radio show (several long stints on A Prairie Home Companion), and on concert stages across North America and occasionally Europe. She has released more than a dozen recordings, including albums dedicated to the music of Hoagy Carmichael and Greg Brown, and a collection of international lullabies.
