VenuWorks Presents Chris Janson at the Rialto Square Theatre

Just announced CHRIS JANSON will be at the Rialto Square Theatre on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 7:30 PM.

A “live legacy in the making” (Rolling Stone), country music star and acclaimed entertainer Chris Janson is a platinum-selling recording artist, high-octane entertainer, multi-instrumentalist, and award-winning singer/songwriter who Bobby Bones has named among the greatest six live performers in country music.

The ACM Award-winner has collected prestigious accolades that place him amongst country music greats. Both his inspiring hit “Drunk Girl” and his chart-topping, 3x Platinum smash “Buy Me A Boat” were named among NSAI’s “Ten Songs I Wish I’d Written” lists – making Janson one in a handful of the industry’s most elite artists to earn the title multiple times. “Good Vibes,” the flagship single from his 2019 album Real Friends, and follow-up “Done” each topped the country charts, bringing his total of No. 1 songs to four – and now the hit-maker is entering a new chapter with “Bye Mom.” The single, derived from the real-life story of co-writer Brandon Kinney, is a triumphant ode to unconditional love. It was most-added upon impact at country radio and earned the highest first-week streaming total of Janson’s career.

In addition to his own successes, the talented songwriter has lent his pen to industry peers including Tim McGraw (“Truck Yeah,” “How I’ll Always Be”), LOCASH (“I Love This Life”) and the legendary Hank Williams Jr. (“God Fearin’ Man,” “Those Days Are Gone”). Catch Janson’s “crazy harmonica skill and… riveting stage tyle” (People) this winter on his headlining Halfway to Crazy Tour and see for yourself what makes him an “undeniable star” (The Tennessean).

VenuWorks Presents FELIPE ESPARZA at the Rialto Square Theatre

Filipe Esparza - February 12 @ 8 PM

Actor and Last Comic Standing Winner Felipe Esparza will be taking the stage at the Rialto Square Theatre February 12, 2022 at 8pm for a night of laughter and stories.

Felipe started his career all because someone asked him to list his five goals in life, which included “to be happy” and “be a stand-up comedian.” After a short stint in rehab before he was 21, he worked for years as a stand-up comedian, opening on the road for fellow comedians such as Gabriel Iglesias and Paul Rodriguez. He then took a leap of faith and went out on his own, which led to very little income and opportunity at first.
His “overnight success” of winning Last Comic Standing allowed Felipe to produce his first stand-up comedy special, “They’re Not Gonna Laugh at You” (now on Netflix). He also has made several appearances TV appearances on “The Eric Andre Show: and NBC’s “Superstore”.

In addition to his live stand-up, Felipe hosts a weekly podcast on the All Things Comedy Network called “What’s Up Fool?” that focuses on interesting stories from just about anybody. From Father Greg Boyle from Homeboy Industries, to actor Emilio Rivera (from Sons of Anarchy) to even the “Incredible Hulk” who takes photos with tourist on Hollywood Blvd., Felipe believes everyone has a story to tell about how they got where they are, no matter who they are.

In 2017, Felipe and his wife self-financed and self-produced his second one‐hour stand‐up special, entitled “Translate This”, which they licensed to HBO. His latest stand-up special was released September, 2020 on Netflix as a dual release – one special performed in English (“Bad Decisions”) and one performed in Spanish (“Malas Decisiones”). Felipe is also currently developing a sitcom with actor Omar Chaparro, producer Eric Tannenbaum and 3Pas (Eugenio Derbez’s production company).

VIP Packages Include:
Meet and Greet After the show
Photo Opportunity with Felipe Esparza
“Unmasked” Tour Laminate and Lanyard

VenuWorks Presents Church Basement Ladies at the Rialto Square Theatre

VenuWorks Presents Church Basement Ladies at the Rialto Square Theatre

CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES, a celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there, will make its return to the Rialto Square Theatre stage on March 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM.

This beloved show features four distinct characters and their relationships as they organize the food and the problems of a rural Minnesota church. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young bride-to-be learning the proper order of things, the book and music give us a touching, funny look at their lives as we see them handle a record-breaking Christmas dinner, the funeral of a dear friend, a Hawaiian Easter Fundraiser, and a steaming hot July wedding. They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the Pastor on due course while thoroughly enjoying, (and tolerating) each other. Funny and down to earth, audiences will recognize these ladies as they begin to see the Church year unfold from below the House of God. This is most certainly true!

Authors/humorists Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson the creators of the best-selling book Growing Up Lutheran and a host of other humorous writings have joined forces with Twin Cities based production company Troupe America, Inc. and its Executive Producer Curt Wollan to turn their material into a beloved musical comedy, CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES. It was a love affair in the making originally inspired by a conversation with Wollan’s in-laws suggesting that he talk with Martin and Nelson about the idea of turning their material into a musical comedy. Wollan wanted to create a show that celebrates the women who work so hard and with such dedication in the church kitchen whether they be Lutheran, Methodist, Jewish or Catholic. Wollan explained, “I know about these “Steel Magnolias” of the church, because my mother was one of them while I was growing up.” Intrigued by the idea, Martin and Nelson agreed to meet.

Wollan commissioned creative writing team Jim Stowell, one of Minnesota’s favorite storytellers and Jessica Zuehlke, a performance arts educator and also the daughter of a Church Basement Lady, to develop the book. This husband and wife duo collaborated with composer/ songwriter Drew Jansen, well-known for his creation of the music for the popular homegrown hit musical, How To Talk Minnesotan The Musical, Directed by Wollan, the inspiration is found in his mother who was a well-respected church kitchen lady who’s Church named their new stove in her honor. CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES is choreographed by Wendy Short Hays, with set design, and lighting design by Scott Herbst, costume design by Katrina Benedict and musical direction by Drew Jansen.

100 percent Norwegian-American Lutheran, Martin and Nelson bill themselves as authors and humorists and together or individually are in high demand as speakers/performers throughout the country. Martin grew up on a farm near Hillsboro, North Dakota and now resides in Hastings, Minnesota and Nelson, originally from Evansville, Minnesota, lives in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The two met in 1964 during Freshman Week at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and became lifetime friends and partners in writing. Together they have co-authored and published a number of Scandinavian-American “heartwarming humor” books over the past ten years– nine to be exact, beginning in 1994 with Cream Peas on? They are best-known for their book Growing Up Lutheran: What Does This Mean? which became a national bestseller and won them the 1998 Minnesota Book Award for Humor.
