Sharing the Stage for an Evening of Song: Patty Griffin, Hayes Carll, & Lori McKenna

It was just announced 2x GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Patty Griffin, GRAMMY® Award-nominated, Americana Music Award-winner Hayes Carll, and 2x GRAMMY® Award-winning singer-songwriter Lori McKenna will be at the Rialto Square Theatre on Saturday, November 16.  This special show will feature all three artists performing together, sharing songs and stories from across their acclaimed careers.  Tickets go on sale Friday, September 13, at 10 AM!

ABOUT PATTY GRIFFIN:

Patty Griffin is among the most consequential singer-songwriters of her generation, a quintessentially American artist whose wide-ranging canon incisively explores the intimate moments and universal emotions that bind us together. Over the course of two decades, the 2x GRAMMY® Award winner – and 7x nominee – has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for “[writing] cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people…[her] songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends.” 2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist’s GRAMMY® Award-winning 10th studio recording, PATTY GRIFFIN, available via her own PGM Recordings label via Thirty Tigers. One of the most deeply personal recordings of Griffin’s remarkable two-decade career and first-ever eponymous LP, PATTY GRIFFIN made a top 5 debut on Billboard’s “Independent Albums” chart amidst unprecedented worldwide acclaim, and later, a prestigious GRAMMY® Award for “Best Folk Album.” In 2022, Griffin shared TAPE, a collection of rare demos and home recordings hailed by No Depression as “a thoughtful collection of found objects…Griffin’s fans will be quite glad to have these songs in any form for the light they shine on her brilliance.” In addition to her creative career, Griffin has also devoted considerable energy and focus towards the wellbeing of the planet as well as showing compassion for the less fortunate among us via personal and public acts of charity. Having crafted a rich catalog that chronicles love and death, heartache and joy, connection and detachment, Patty Griffin continues to push her art forward, as always imbuing every effort with compassion and craft, uncanny perception, and ever-increasing ingenuity.

ABOUT HAYES CARLL:

Hayes Carll is at the forefront of a generation of American singer-songwriters. A Texas native, his style of roots-oriented songwriting has been noted for its plainspoken poetry and sarcastic humor. Though hard to pigeonhole, he’s still been embraced with two Americana Music Awards, multiple Austin Music Awards, and a 2016 GRAMMY® Award nomination for “Best Country Song,” while twice having the most-played record on Americana radio and songs recorded by Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack, and Brothers Osborne, to name a few. 2021’s You Get It All, his acclaimed eighth solo album, found Carll in top form, turning droll confessions, messy relationships, motel room respites, and an exasperated, hitchhiking God into modern nuggets. 2024 saw Carll uniting with The Band of Heathens as Hayes & The Heathens for a series of live dates and the 4/20 anthem, “Nobody Dies From Weed,” hailed by Rolling Stone as “a jaunty celebration of life.

ABOUT LORI MCKENNA:

From her home base in Boston, Lori McKenna has carved out an enviable niche for herself as one of Nashville’s most in-demand songwriters, all while maintaining a prolific and remarkably consistent career as a solo artist. The release of 2023’s 1988 adds to a series of landmark years for McKenna and follows three widely acclaimed albums: 2016’s The Bird & The Rifle, 2018’s The Tree, and 2020’s The Balladeer, the latter of which saw Associated Press praise, “McKenna has by now long established herself as one of the best songwriters working in any genre. And she does it again and again.” Hailed by The Tennessean as “one of the sharpest pens in modern country and folk songwriting,” McKenna continues to enjoy success as one of the music industry’s most in-demand songwriters along with her career as a solo artist. In 2017, McKenna became the first woman to win the Academy of Country Music’s “Songwriter of the Year” award and the first woman to win the Country Music Association’s “Song of the Year” award two years in a row. She also won back-to-back GRAMMY® Awards for “Best Country Song” for 2016’s “Girl Crush,” performed by Little Big Town, and 2017’s “Humble and Kind,” performed by Tim McGraw. In 2021, McKenna won her third “Best Country Song” GRAMMY® for co-writing “Crowded Table,” performed by the Highwomen, with Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires. In 2023, she received an additional “Best Country Song” GRAMMY® Award nomination for co-writing “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault),” performed by Taylor Swift.  In addition to writing songs for a multitude of award-winning artists — including Hunter Hayes, Faith Hill, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood — McKenna also co-wrote “Always Remember Us This Way,” featured in the Oscar-winning 2018 film, A Star Is Born.

Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen Featuring Patrick Myers as Freddie Mercury

Lead singer Patrick Myers said “It’s been an amazing journey. That first show changed my life. We thought our band would last maybe a summer at the most but it’s a very addictive thing performing these songs. The concerts grew and grew, and we’ve ended up playing and selling out the same arenas that Queen played at their peak. It was quite a surreal ride. Becoming regular performers at Red Rocks Arena in America is another highlight. The Beatles, U2, Springsteen, and Dylan all played on that stage. It’s really got its own kind of magic going on there”

MAGIC YEARS

Killer Queen’s first public shows were at London University, following in the footsteps of the real Queen who had played their first shows there decades earlier.

Killer Queen’s UK popularity grew to such an extent they soon secured a residency in London’s Strand Theatre attracting nationwide BBC coverage – the first tribute to have a show in the West End.

The band’s reputation continued to grow both in the UK and abroad leading to an awards ceremony in Leicester Square, hosted by Suggs from Madness who presented them with the award for “Worldwide Best Tribute Band”. They also scored a number one hit when they were asked to recreate Queen’s harmonies for “The Real Life” with Fatboy Slim.

By now they were in demand in European arenas playing Ahoy and Forest National Arena where Queen filmed the concert set piece videos such as Hammer to Fall and Don’t Stop Me Now.

Killer Queen then joined forces with Bjorn Again and The Bootleg Beatles for a Waverley Stadium show in Edinburgh. It was this performance that led to the band being selected to represent Queen in a re-staged tribute LiveAid concert held by Sir Bob Geldof in Malta. They performed with him at his arena charity concert to raise funds for young homeless people.

Killer Queen set their sights on America including the awe-inspiring Red Rocks Arena in Colorado – one of the country’s most prestigious venues. The Beatles, Springsteen, U2 have all played there and the band is delighted it’s become a regular sell-out fixture on Killer Queen’s tour sheet. 2023 saw the band play packed arenas across Europe: Stavanger in Norway and Cardiff, Nottingham, Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Leeds in the UK. 2024 includes an arena tour of Lithuania, UK arena shows in Liverpool.
