Volunteer Spotlight

Spotlight on: Alice Malloy

Congratulations and Thank You For Your Dedication

Alice Malloy

Most people’s perfect day would consist of winning the lottery or meeting a superstar like Johnny Depp. However, Volunteer Alice Malloy has a more simple wish, “My perfect day would be to talk with all three of my children on the same day”. This sentiment perfectly describes Alice; teacher, friend, avid reader, crafter, traveler. It has been said of Alice that when you look up the word kindness in the dictionary, you see her name printed as the definition. Our 2011 Volunteer Hall of Fame Award winner is known as the “card lady”. Why? Well, if a volunteer is in need of a greeting card, we turn to Alice, the Social & Recognition Committee Chairperson. What most people don’t realize is that Alice makes 99% of those cards, and they are made and sent with love.

Originally from Tiskilwa, IL, Alice attended a one-room schoolhouse and came from a family of farmers. She had a long career as a school teacher and currently is a substitute teacher with the Troy School District. She began her volunteering with the Rialto in 1982 and the first performance she ever volunteered for was Anne Murray. When asked what is the best thing about being a Rialto Volunteer, Alice states, “Making friends”. Living a philosophy of “Always be honest”, Alice Malloy is the real deal and one of the true Jewels of Joliet.
